The Z series is modeled after a Doc Severinson model of the 70’s. This mouthpiece is for those who cannot play shallow mouthpieces. The hole (28), and back-bore give you “zing” to “cut through” the section and keep up with the other players who are playing shallow equipment. Because of the added resistance, it is easier to play in the high range. It has a big fat bright sound. As an added note, the Z series is available if a different rim sizes and profiles. The Classical numbered rims will have the same size and design as the Classical Series and the Commercial numbered rims will have the same size and shape as our Commercial Flat Rim design.
We’ve found that the Z series plays best in a one-piece design but due to popular demand we have begun offering the 5Z, 5ZM, and 5ZS as tops only with either the standard Z series rim, or the CR (comfort rim). The Z back-bore can be purchased here.
